What Contributes to the Long Service Life of Blue Molds® Concrete Block Moulds?

Blue Molds steel mould

The service life of Blue Molds® concrete block moulds does not depend only on the material they are made of. Their durability depends on the design, choice of material, production precision, and final protection, but also on the way the mould is used, maintained, and stored.

Therefore, the factors that contribute to the durability and service life of a mould can be divided into two main groups. The first consists of the characteristics of the mould itself, which determine its strength, stability, and resistance to wear. The second relates to the way the mould is used and maintained, because even a high-quality steel mould can be unnecessarily stressed or damaged by improper handling.

That is why, with our moulds, we do not only focus on making them strong and durable. We pay special attention to making them easy to use correctly. The design solutions, assembly method, handling elements, and possibility of replacing wearing parts are designed to make everyday work easier, reduce unnecessary wear, and allow the mould to retain its functional characteristics for as long as possible.

Mould Characteristics

The quality and long service life of a mould begin in the design phase. Good construction, the right material, precise production, and high-quality final protection are the foundation of a reliable steel concrete block mould.

Mould Construction

Good construction largely determines how the mould will perform during long-term use. The goal is not only to make a mould that is functional when new, but a construction that can withstand a large number of repetitions, concrete pours, and vibrations without losing its basic characteristics.

One of the important elements of our construction is the 4 mm thick sheet metal. This thickness provides the necessary strength and stability during operation. Additional rigidity is provided by multi-bent profiles, also made of 4 mm thick sheet metal. Their role is especially important in moulds designed for a large number of concrete pours, as they reduce the possibility of deformation and help preserve the shape of the construction.

We also pay special attention to areas that are important for maintaining the geometry of the mould. The corner is welded and additionally reinforced, ensuring a 90° angle. This solution allows the mould to maintain the precision and shape that are essential for the quality and uniformity of the finished product.

Another solution that supports the durability of the mould is the replaceable mould locking plate. It is a part designed to wear over time and is not part of the basic construction of the mould. When it wears out, there is no need to replace the entire mould. Simply replace the locking plate and continue using the mould.

Material Selection

For our moulds, we use high-quality steel, and the choice of material is the result of many years of experience in manufacturing. Its characteristics, together with the processing methods and design solutions, must match the conditions in which the mould is used. The solutions we apply have been proven through years of production and thousands of moulds manufactured.

Precise Mould Manufacturing

Control of the production process is one of the key factors in the quality and durability of our moulds. The entire production process, from material cutting to the final operations, takes place in our factory. In this way, we have control over every stage of production and can ensure that the design solutions are precisely implemented in the finished product. In production, we use modern technologies such as laser cutting, CNC machining, CNC bending of sheet metal and profiles, and robotic welding, as well as many others.

We place a special focus on continuous automation and improvement of the production process, with the goal of providing our customers with a stable and consistent level of quality. Consistency in quality is an important condition for customer satisfaction, reliable operation, and a long service life of the product.

Final Protection

In addition to construction and manufacturing, protection from external influences also plays an important role in the durability of steel moulds. The surface of our products is shot-blasted as preparation for powder coating, after which the moulds are powder coated. This combination has proven to be the most effective solution for long-term protection of moulds against corrosion and weather conditions.

Use and Maintenance of the Mould

Proper preparation before work, appropriate handling, cleaning after use, and regular maintenance help prevent unnecessary wear and damage. That is why, when developing our moulds, we also paid attention to making them as easy to use as possible. When handling and maintenance are practically designed, the possibility of mistakes and unnecessary stress on the construction is reduced.

Proper Preparation and Maintenance

The mould should be properly prepared for work, used according to its intended purpose, and cleaned and prepared for the next use after operation. This approach helps preserve the geometry, functionality, and final protection of the mould. To make this part of the work as simple as possible for our customers, we have prepared instructions and videos showing the proper use and maintenance of the mould. By following these guidelines, it is possible to avoid mistakes and make the most of the advantages of the mould’s construction.

Carrying Elements and Proper Handling

When moving and positioning the mould, damage can occur if the appropriate method of handling is not used. That is why our moulds come with carrying elements that allow them to be handled using various construction machines without causing damage to the mould. This directly contributes to a longer service life and makes work and use easier.

Construction from Two L Profiles

Unlike moulds that are assembled from four parts, our moulds consist of two L profiles. This construction simplifies everyday work. Moulds consisting of four parts require more frequent assembly and disassembly, as well as adjustment and cleaning of of connections and edges. With our solution, this work is reduced to a minimum. Less assembly and disassembly means faster and easier work, as well as less movement and adjustment of parts. This also reduces the possibility of unnecessary wear and errors during handling.

A Long Service Life Is the Result of the Entire System

The long service life of a mould is the result of the entire process: from design and material selection, through precise manufacturing and final protection, to the way the mould is used and maintained. Strong construction, high-quality steel, precise manufacturing, corrosion protection, replaceable wearing parts, and practical handling solutions together create the foundation for a reliable and long-lasting product.

However, the full quality of the mould can only be used with proper operation and maintenance. Proper preparation, handling, and maintenance help preserve its characteristics and reduce unnecessary wear. That is why we do not look at our moulds only as a product, but as the result of a carefully designed system in which every detail has its role in achieving a long and reliable service life.
